Description

Position Overview:

Produce visual solutions for use in marketing materials, training manuals, and other media. Plan, schedule, and implement graphic design projects. Review design drafts, proof camera-ready art, and ensure proper pagination and color assignment. Apply established corporate branding specifications to ensure work meets university guidelines. Assist in Web design and creating online content. May produce technical illustrations for manuals, brochures, labels, or other documents.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Design Lab Management: Produce visual design solutions for use in the Department. Plan, schedule, and design layouts for gallery shows, recruitment materials, back to school items, senior show. Produce visual solutions for use in marketing materials, exhibitions, and other media. Ensure the proper day-to-day operation of technology applications and equipment within the Department. Manage the efficient use of inventory and implement a supply system that keeps costs low. Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock, and investigate discrepancies or adjust errors. Ensure the stock items are marked and supplies are cleaned and storage areas are in compliance with safety regulations. Keep records on the use or damage of stock or stock-handling equipment. Determine proper storage methods, identification, and stock location based on turnover, environmental factors, and physical capabilities of facilities. Responsible for work order assignment, prioritization, escalation, and transfer to appropriate technician or department. Oversees the care and functioning of PrintCenter, Letterpress Lab and Materials Lab. Assist with the set-up and break down of campus events, program, and activities. Support on-site coordination of vendors, staff, and/or volunteers. Respond to questions and provide information. Technology Support: Assist in Website updates, gather and creating online content, update and maintain social media presence. Provides immediate on-site support to faculty, staff, and students. Continually updates skills and knowledge relative to the position and the areas of design and technology. Provide assistance in resolving technology support issues. Must have a valid driver's license. May work nights or weekends when needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
 

Qualifications

Experience Required:

Requires a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or related field OR in lieu of degree 4 years of equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results. The salary and level of this position are based on the experience of the selected applicant.
 

Experience Preferred:

BFA in Graphic Design with Experience with Mac and PC Computers, Adobe CC, Inkjet printing, and Microsoft Office Products. Portfolio of Graphic Design Work. Supervisory experience. Strong graphic design skills.
 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Experience with networking, website updating, Microsoft operating systems, and Microsoft Office applications. Expertise in commonly used design and business applications. Translates technical issues so that non-technical personnel can understand these issues. Must be accountable and responsible to the Support and Operations organization. Maintains a customer-service attitude. Self-motivated, self-starter; detail oriented, and continually strives to provide excellent support. Deadline driven with the ability to multi-task Demonstrated knowledge of microcomputer hardware and software, including Microsoft operating systems and Office applications, Adobe CC. Excellent computer and communications skills. Ability to analyze, evaluate, and solve system related problems. Maintains courteous attitude in dealing with students, faculty, and staff and visitors in a high traffic/call volume environment. Ability to learn software and operating environments quickly and thoroughly.
 

Physical Demands:

Repetitive movement of hands and fingers - typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.
