This is a marketing role requiring strong strategic, organizational and communication skills. In this role, the Associate Marketing Director will support our Specialty business, specifically the Financial Protection portfolio inclusive of Voluntary Benefits, Life, Disability and FMLA products to effectively translate business objectives into actionable B2B marketing strategies driving growth and retention. This role will lead product marketing and promotional initiatives including new product launches, enhancements, and existing product maintenance, yet may also lead multi-channel paid media campaigns and digital experiences. No day or week will be the same and this leader must be willing to navigate ambiguity, learn and understand a diverse portfolio, cultivate audience insights, establish process and procedure while anticipating the needs of the business.

This Individual must have experience partnering effectively in a matrix organization and be adept at nuancing communications for various levels of management as strategic, product or process decisions are most likely to impact multiple functions, lines of business and external customers. Agency experience is desirable.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversees go-to-market strategy, positioning, plan definition and creative execution of new product launches, product refresh and maintenance needs
  • Leads strategy and development of audience-centric B2B marketing programs focused on building awareness and customer engagement or purchase of Specialty offering; advocates for new marketing strategies/initiatives in order to drive behavior change and meet business goals
  • Builds familiarity and demonstrates understanding of portfolio of products (e.g., features, benefits, audiences, differentiators)
  • Collaborates with business leads, key internal stakeholders (e.g., member and brand marketing), and internal functional partners to define marketing strategy, outline project plan, drive key milestones, manage budget, and timeline
  • Leads internal and external agencies and suppliers in development of creative work and strategic marketing solutions; provides direct and actionable feedback; creates alignment across team(s)
    • Creates program and campaign tracking plan, evaluates results, identifies best performing marketing activities, refines plan and implements improvements into future marketing initiatives
    • Develops deep customer understanding, identifies pain points, solutions and segmentation insights; leverages research, assessing proprietary and third - party data to strengthen output
    • Directs and influences others without direct authority to champion ideas and resolve business problems that affect multiple functions or disciplines

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5+ years of strategic marketing experience
  • 2+ years working in a matrix organization
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver results on complex initiatives
  • Project management experience, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines within specified time constraints
  • Experience navigating change, challenging the status quo and inspiring new ideas and processes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA and / or advanced degree
  • Healthcare industry experience
  • Knowledge in Business to business marketing
  • Knowledge in Digital and direct marketing to reach customized target segments
  • Proven success in the development of strategic marketing plans tied to business goals and deployment of integrated marketing campaigns
  • Proven success working with external vendors
  • Solid proven analytical skills

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $97,300 to $176,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
