Costume Studio Manager (200838)

TheCostume Studio Manager oversees the daily operation of the costume studio including personnel and supplies management.

The Costume Studio Manager is responsible for supervising the productionand completion of new costumes and the refurbishment/alteration of existingcostumes for the University Theatre production season.

The Costume Studio Manager directly supervises the costume staff and students and manages the daily operations of the costume area. They will assist in the oversight of the education mission of the costume program, working with the Costume Design Faculty. The Manager will attend department meetings and rehearsals, as needed and maintain the costume equipment and facilities.

Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor Degree OR an equivalentcombination of education/job related experience, AND:

  • 18-36 months of professional Theatre experience
Skills:
  • Ability to accurately read and understand writtenmaterials and instructions

  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quicklywith students, faculty, and staff

  • Effective oral and written communication

  • Ability to work independently and good organizationalskills

  • Costume construction skills, such as patterning, machine/hand sewing

  • Supervision

Advertised Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods; lift up to 50 lbs; beable to kneel and/or stoop for short periods, and engage in repetitive motions including movements of thehands, wrists or fingers.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Master's degree in costume design or technology

  • Experience in construction of dancewear

  • Tailoring experience

  • Worked or trained in a professional costume shop

  • Knowledge or experience with computer aideddesign programs (Pattern Master Boutique, Tailor-Made, etc)
