Job Summary

Matrix Service is currently searching for a Craft Recruiter. Based in our Houston, Texas office the Craft Recruiter is responsible for assisting in all recruitment efforts of Craft candidates for assigned Business Units nationally as needed. This role will entail close interactions with field operations, hiring managers and Business Unit leaders to identify hiring needs and provide guidance with solutions related to recruitment. The Craft Recruiter will be responsible to execute full life cycle craft recruiting and employment activities. Tasks will include but are not limited to creating and managing requisitions including: assess job specification criteria, identify screening questions and skills testing, determine candidate interview approach. Interview potential candidates as well as gather and consolidate feedback from interview team, and negotiate job offer details with candidates. Craft Recruiter must identify and stay current on market trends in the marketplace that impact ability to support project staffing.

Essential Functions

  • Actively supports the Company's commitment to safety and its "Core Values."
  • Represents the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company's "Code of Business Conduct and Ethics."
  • Assists in the coordination and administration of field/craft recruiting, including employment advertising, affirmative action postings, screening resumes/job applications, arranging interviews and administering various skills assessment tests. Maintains applicant tracking information and updates database on a regular basis.
  • Analyzes craft and technical personnel needs for current projects through discussions with operations management, project managers, and superintendents. Based on that guidance, prepares and implements recruitment programs for each project and/or group and ensures efficient utilization of current craft employees.
  • Assists operations management with short and long-term craft planning and resource needs.
  • Monitors and stays current with industry trends and best practices in all aspects of craft recruiting and makes recommendations for new or improved practices.
  • Analyzes information provided on prospective employee applications, conducts personal interviews, and determines suitability for employment. When applicants are determined to be qualified, performs additional background reference investigation (i.e., verification of licenses/certifications, reference checks and work history, etc.) to obtain adequate information on which to base a hiring decision.
  • Administers drug testing, craft skills testing and other pre-employment applicant activities. Coordinates safety and/or other client-specific training with operations management and the Safety department.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and sends new hire packets, conducts new employee orientations, obtains completed paperwork from new hires and answers applicant/employee questions.
  • Maintains and updates employee personnel files in a confidential manner.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 year's previous experience in recruiting craft and specialized field/technical employees in the construction industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated skill in the successful development and implementation of creative recruiting strategies.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Solid knowledge of federal, state, and local laws regarding employment practices.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, the internet, and human resources software applications.
  • Professional approach and demeanor.
