Responsibilities

  • Receives referred specimens or specimens directly from patients and performs complex qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Performs required tests according to established procedures and methodologies.
  • Completes reports for test performed and ensures quality control criteria are met.
  • Documents all quality control and maintains required records to obtain quality testing results.
  • Performs basic Blood Bank testing - including type and antibody screens, rhogam work ups, immediate spin cross matches, retyping of units, issuing of blood products.
    **MT/MLTs performing Blood Bank testing MUST be certified by ASCP or equivalent**
  • Assists in the evaluation of new or modified techniques when required.
  • Advises and assists in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software as necessary.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Must possess a Bachelor's or Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in a Chemistry, Physical, Biology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or similar Medical Technology Program.
  • Desirable characteristics include at least two years' experience as a Medical Technologist/Medical Lab Technologist
  • Must have or be eligible for ASCP, AMT or AAB certification (non-certified applicants must obtain certification within one year of hire). Certified technicians will be considered before other applicants.
